About Fard
The five daily prayers, fasting in Ramadan, zakat and hajj (for those able) are examples of fard acts. Fard is divided into fard ayn, which every individual must perform, and fard kifayah, such as the funeral prayer, which is fulfilled when enough people do it. Most jurists use fard and wajib as the same level, while the Hanafi school separates them.
