About Zakat
Zakat becomes due on savings and certain other assets above a minimum threshold called the nisab once they have been held for a full lunar year. The commonly stated rate on cash and trade goods is 2.5 percent. The Quran names the categories of people who may receive it, including the poor and the needy, and it purifies both wealth and giver.
