About Tafsir
Classical works of tafsir draw on the Quran itself, the sayings of the Prophet, the understanding of his companions, the Arabic language and the occasions of revelation. Well-known books by early scholars are still widely read, and many contemporary works exist in many languages. A translation of the Quran is not itself a tafsir, so reading both together is helpful.
