Learn Quranic Arabic

A short, free course for beginners: the alphabet, vowels and signs, a letter trainer, and flashcards of the most common words of the Quran.

What you will learn

This is a free beginner course that helps you read the words of the Quran and understand the most common ones. You start with the 28 letters and their four shapes, move on to the vowels and signs that guide pronunciation, practise with short quizzes, and then memorise the most frequent Quranic words with flashcards.

  • The 28 Arabic letters: isolated, initial, medial and final forms, each letter's name and how it sounds.
  • The six letters that do not connect to the next letter: ا د ذ ر ز و.
  • Fatha, kasra, damma, sukoon, shadda, tanween and the long-vowel letters, with examples from Al-Fatihah, Al-Ikhlas and other short surahs.
  • Quick quizzes on letter names, letter shapes and vowels that bring back the letters you find hard.
  • More than 70 flashcards of high-frequency Quranic words with vowels, transliteration and meaning.

Your progress is stored only on this device (in your browser); nothing is sent anywhere. To recite correctly, please also learn with a qualified teacher.
